TSR 11/12/19 CBB Picks

Welcome readers to the first edition of the TSR CBB Picks. For select games each day, we will choose the winners of each game. We will also provide stats and thoughts where we think that it's interesting.

Game 1: Creighton at Michigan (6:30, FS1)
Nick: Creighton--In their season opener, Juwan Howard's bunch struggled to close out the door against App State. The matchup at point guard between Davion Mintz and Zavier Simpson will be an intriguing battle on both ends of the floor.

Sam: Michigan-- I’m not overly impressed by either of these teams, but, put simply, Michigan has Zavier Simpson and Creighton does not. I think the senior point guard is the difference and the Wolverines move to 2-0.

Zach: Michigan-- After a huge collapse in the second half of the App State game, Michigan turns
it around and wins comfortably. This is a huge game though, because if Michigan doesn’t come
to play like they can, it could be a sign for the season to come.

Game 2: Missouri at Xavier (7:00, CBSSN)
Nick: Xavier--The Smiths (Mark and Dru) can shoot the ball from deep for Mizzu, but I don't think it will be enough on the road in what can be a rowdy Cintas Center.

Sam: Xavier-- The trio of Paul Scruggs, Naji Marshall and Tyriq Jones is terrific. Pair that with having the better coach of the two teams, and I think X rolls at the Cintas Center.

Zach:Missouri-- After a handily win last year over Xavier, Missouri goes back to back. Injuries will play a factor, and if Scruggs is out for X, even better for Mizzou.

Game 3: St. Bonaventure at Siena (7:00, ESPN+)
Nick: Siena

Sam: Siena

Zach: Siena

Game 4: William & Mary at Wofford (7:00, ESPN+)
Nick: Wofford--No Fletcher Magee? No Mike Young? No problem. Nathan Hoover may be the best scorer that America hasn't heard of. W&M's Nathan Knight may be able to have his way against an inexperienced Terriers frontcourt, but the Tribe's questions at the guard spot will prove fatal Tuesday.

Sam: Wofford

Zach: Storm Murphy and Nathan Hoover, too much for the Tribe.

Game 5: Northern Illinois at Iowa State (8:00)
Nick: Iowa State

Sam: Iowa State

Zach: Iowa State

Game 6: Minnesota at Butler (8:30, FS1)
Nick: Butler

Sam: Minnesota

Zach: Minnesota gets the job done controlling the paint all night, most in part due to the departure of Joey Brunk.

Game 7: Oregon vs Memphis (9:00, ESPN)
Nick: Memphis--The two main stars in this game couldn't be any different. A scrappy, experienced guard in Payton Pritchard leads the Ducks while the Tigers are led by freshman phenom center James Wiseman. Experience usually plays a factor early in the season, but there is just too much fire power on the Memphis Tigers' roster.

Sam: Oregon-- Yes, Memphis has a bunch of talent. But Oregon does too, and more importantly they've got a senior point guard. This is the young Tigers’ first game away from home and there is a lot of noise regarding Wiseman’s eligibility. Ducks win what will be the best game of the night.

Zach: Memphis- Wiseman or not, overlooked and underrated Precious Achiuwa goes double- double, along with help from a top recruiting class and the young returners with key experience like Maurice, Harris, and Lomax, the Tigers beat the Ducks.

Game 8: Miami FL at UCF (9:00, CBSSN)
Nick: Miami FL

Sam: Miami FL

Zach: Miami FL

Game 9: UNLV at California (11:00, Pac12)
Nick: UNLV

Sam:UNLV-- A very interesting game as two first year head coaches (TJ Otzelberger at UNLV and Mark Fox at Cal) meet in Berkley. I really did not like the Fox hire, but I do think Otz is a good up and coming young coach.

Zach: UNLV-- going only off of names, Christopher "Taka" Hall, Cheikh Mbacke Diong, Elijah
Mitrou-Long...tough to find a better trio than that in college basketball.

Game 10: Oklahoma vs Oregon St (11:00, ESPN2)
Nick: Oregon St---It's too bad that this game is so late at night. The nation needs more Tres Tinkle.

Sam: Oregon St-- Ditto to what Nick said, Tinkle lit up Iowa State for 27 on six three’s Saturday night. He should be the frontrunner for Pac 12 Player of the Year.

Zach: Oklahoma--Sooners need to shoot well from deep, and if they can find some consistency out there, watch out for Brady Manek and Oklahoma in the Big Twelve this year.

Upset Pick (not in games above):
Nick: Long Beach State over Stanford--The Beach and Dan Monson gave UCLA all they could handle last week, and that Bruins team should finish above Stanford in the Pac 12.

Sam: UTEP over New Mexico State- Chris Jans has one of the best mid major squads in the country, but I don’t think they survive this trip to El Paso. LSU transfer Darryl Edwards leads a very talented Miners team, and I have them in a close one over the Aggies. This is a very underrated mid-major matchup.

Zach: South Alabama over #22 Auburn- Auburn has struggles in their first two games since a Final Four appearance last year and in their first road game this season, they fall to the Jaguars.
