TSR 12/1/19 CBB Picks

Saturday Takeaways
1-Florida State has an impressive weekend at the Emerald Coast Classic. They knocked out both Tennessee and Purdue to bring home the title with two marquee victories. Leonard Hamilton’s bunch adds these to a Florida victory already on the slate to a great resume this season.

2-Detroit Mercy needs a second scorer. Antoine Davis scored 33 points against Ohio, but he needed 26 shots to get there. If they are going to contend in the Horizon, or even knock teams off, they need someone to step up and compliment him. Either that, or he needs to shoot better than he has so far.

Yesterday's Pick Results (Season Pick Standings can be found here) Sam 8-2
Zach 8-2 (upset pick of Northern Arizona (+6.5) over South Dakota also won)
Nick 6-4

Our Picks for Sunday’s Action

Game 1: Maryland vs Marquette (1:00, ESPN)

Nick: Maryland—Markus Howard is hot, and he will keep the Golden Eagles in the game, but he will not have enough around him to win.

Sam: Maryland-- I just don’t think Markus Howard has enough around him for Marquette to be able to win this game. Maryland also has a couple of very long guards in Eric Ayala, Darryl Morsell, and Aaron Wigington That they could rotate on Howard and fluster him with their length.

Zach: Maryland- Markus Howard has 91 points in his last two games, but today goes against a premier PG in the country in Anthony Cowan Jr.. Howard gets his own again but his supporting cast isn’t near as good as Maryland’s.

Game 2: Rhode Island at West Virginia (2:00)

Nick: Rhode Island—Another HUGE win for the A10 in the early non-conference.

Sam: West Virginia

Zach: West Virginia

Game 3: Vermont at Yale (3:00, ESPN+)

Nick: Vermont—This is a fantastic small-conference battle in the Northeast today. These two could make noise in March, provided they navigate their one bid leagues.

Sam: Vermont

Zach: Yale

Game 4: Temple vs Davidson (4:00, ESPN2)

Nick: Temple—Nate Pierre-Louis is the key to the Owls getting this victory in Orlando.

Sam: Temple

Zach:  Davidson

Game 5: Southern Illinois at St. Louis (4:00, ESPN+)

Nick: St Louis

Sam: St Louis

Zach: St Louis

Game 6: Charleston vs UCF (4:00, ESPNU)

Nick: UCF—I miss Tacko Fall. If only they had beaten Duke last year….

Sam: UCF

Zach: UCF

Game 7: Providence vs Pepperdine (6:00, ESPNU)

Nick: Pepperdine—The Friars’ slide continues as Pepperdine’s offense explodes for a big day once again.

Sam: Providence-- What is up with the Friars? Ed Cooley better figure it out, and fast.

Zach: Providence- The Friars are struggling as of late but they turn it around today.

Game 8: Harvard vs USC (6:00, ESPN2)

Nick: Harvard—USC just frankly isn’t that good.

Sam: Harvard-- Bryce Aiken is just so good...

Zach: Harvard- No letdown after the near upset of Maryland.

Game 9: LaSalle at Villanova (6:30)

Nick: Villanova

Sam: Villanova

Zach: Villanova

Game 10: Wake Forest vs Arizona (9:00, ESPN)

Nick: Arizona—I can’t imagine Sean Miller is all that thrilled about the Wooden Legacy field, as he has relatively no resume boosting games in this tournament. An easy win for the title.

Sam: Arizona

Zach: Arizona

Upsets:

Nick: Long Beach State over Penn (+9.5)

Sam: George Washington over South Carolina (+13.5)

Zach: Loyola Marymount over Southern Utah (+1)
