WEEKEND RECAP
1-Thanks to our guest pickers for a phenomenal effort on the weekend! On Saturday, we had Nate Tuori step up and deliver some great stories about his career at Toledo. Then on Sunday, we had former Forest Hills Central coach Ken George join us.
2-Curious to see how these two pickers did? Figure out their results, including which Coach had a 9-1 record on our Guest Pick Standings page.
TODAY’S GAMES
1. St. John’s vs Xavier (6:30, FS1)
Nick: Xavier- Though this game is at MSG, I feel that the Red Storm are lacking the fire power to win this game without Mustapha Heron. The Musketeers are still on the bubble, and they cannot afford to lose this game.
Sam: Xavier- The Musketeers need this game for any of their tournament hopes to remain alive.
Zach: St. Johns
2. Notre Dame vs North Carolina (7:00, ESPN)
Nick: Notre Dame- The Tar Heels seem to have everything going wrong lately, summed up by the gushing head injury to Cole Anthony in the 50-49 overtime loss to Virginia.
Sam: Notre Dame- The saying is typically "good teams find a way to win", but in this case the Tar Heels are the definition of "bad teams find a way to lose".
Zach: Notre Dame- UNC is anything but good when playing anyone but the top teams
3. North Carolina A&T vs North Carolina Central (7:00, ESPNU)
Nick: North Carolina Central- The Eagles are trying to build some momentum heading into the MEAC Tournament, as they aim for the elusive four-peat. This road win would be a big step, as the Aggies are a half game out of first place.
Sam: NCA&T- Tarik Cohen baby!
Zach: NCA&T
4. Holy Cross vs Bucknell (7:05, CBSSN)
Nick: Bucknell- Holy Cross has struggled this season, as the KenPom metrics find them at 342 out of 353. As a result of that fact alone, I’ll take Bucknell, despite their 10-17 record.
Sam: Bucknell
Zach: Bucknell- Blake Verbeek repping the 616 for Holy Cross
5. Kansas vs Iowa State (9:00, ESPN)
Nick: Kansas- Sam and I had a conversation last night about the Big 12 and how imbalanced the league is. This is another example of that, as the top of the league dominates the bottom.
Sam: Kansas
Zach: Kansas- This should be nothing short of a blowout, as Iowa State is nowhere near what we thought they would be at the beginning of the season
6. Prairie View A&M vs Jackson State (9:00, ESPNU)
Nick: Prairie View A&M- This should be a pretty easy victory for the Panthers, who are trying to win the SWAC regular season championship for the second straight year. Let’s share the fun tidbit that PVAMU has the longest football losing streak in history, with 80 straight defeats from 1989-1998. Can you imagine how bad Langston felt when they were the team that the streak snapped against?
Sam: Prairie View A&M- KenPom projects they finish 15-3 in the SWAC.
Zach: Prairie View A&M
7. Norfolk State vs Coppin State (8:00)
Nick: Norfolk State- The (second?) best Spartans in the country, though they are on the longest winning streak of any Spartans team right now.
Sam: Norfolk State
Zach: Norfolk State- Yeah Nick, no. They are not better than Michigan State, UNCG, and it’s a close race between San Jose State
8. Texas Southern vs Grambling State (8:30)
Nick: Texas Southern- Did you know that Grambling State has never made the NCAA Tournament since moving up to Division I, and that their 2012-13 team became the eighth in NCAA Division I history to go winless?
Sam: Texas Southern- The Tigers are better than the Tigers.
Zach: Texas Southern- Yes Nick, I did
9. Southern vs Mississippi Valley State (8:30)
Nick: Southern- Mississippi Valley State is 352 in KenPom, and they have two wins in SWAC play. Can you imagine how Alabama A&M feels as the team that they have the season sweep against?
Sam: Southern- MVSU is just so bad. They lost by 96 to Utah this year...
Zach: Southern
10. Portland State vs Idaho (10:05)
Nick: Portland State- The Vikings are three games ahead of the Vandals in the Big Sky standings, although they are six games behind first place Montana. Portland State wins this game.
Sam: Portland State
Zach: Portland State
