MSU Basketball: Pierre Brooks II Chooses the Spartans

Michigan State still is putting the finishing touches on it's 2020-21 roster, as they have two scholarships to finalize, with Xavier Tillman and Josh Langford's decisions still looming. Beyond next season, the Spartans will have those scholarships to fill on a permanent basis, and they took a large step in doing that this afternoon.

Pierre Brooks II announced that he would continue his college basketball career at Michigan State on Wednesday, per his Twitter page. Brooks chose the Spartans over a plethora of offers, with Michigan and Xavier being other leading contenders for his services.

Brooks is a 6-5/180 shooting guard from Detroit, and he just completed his junior season at Detroit Douglass Academy. The Hurricanes were 17-5 and set to play in the District Finals before the season was abruptly cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His junior campaign was a successful one as an individual player too, as Brooks averaged 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game, per the highlight video posted on his Twitter page.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Brooks is a four-star prospect, and he is the number 96 player nationally. He is also ranked 21st at the shooting guard position and second amongst all players from Michigan. He becomes the first member of the 2021 recruiting class for Michigan State, and they currently have one additional scholarship opening for this class.
