MSU Football: Mel Tucker Recieves First Three Commits in 2021 Class

Coach Mel Tucker came into Michigan State in February with a class already signed, and no real control over the roster that will shape his inaugural season in East Lansing. Despite the obvious hurdles of COVID-19 on the recruiting trail, it appears that there is already positive momentum for the Spartans in his inaugural class, the 2021 group. This past week, Michigan State received three commitments from 2021 recruits.

Davion Primm, a running back from Oak Park, made history as becoming the first commitment to Mel Tucker and Michigan State. A three-star running back, Primm announced his commitment on April 7. Primm wasted no time in committing to Michigan State, receiving his scholarship offer on Monday evening and deciding to join the program on Tuesday per his Twitter page.

The second commit in Mel Tucker's class won't have to travel far from home for college. The Spartans landed a commitment from 6-7/285 offensive tackle Ethan Boyd, who attends high school at East Lansing, located in the backyard of Michigan State's campus. Boyd is a three-star recruit by most national recruiting services, but his large frame screams tremendous potential in the trenches.

Boyd selected Michigan State over other Power 5 schools such as Indiana, Iowa State, Minnesota and Vanderbilt, and in-state schools Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.

Finally, on Easter Sunday the Spartans landed their third commitment of the week. They went to the Sunshine State and came back with Gabe "Spida" Nealy, a three-star safety from Miami's Gulliver Prep.

The 6-4/175 defensive back chose Michigan State over a pool of offers that also included Cincinnati, Louisville and hometown Miami.

This was a fantastic start to the recruiting class for Mel Tucker, as he aims to shape the program's player personnel in the way that suits his staffs' style of play. Stay tuned here to the Tuori Sports Report for the latest in Michigan State recruiting news.
