TSR 2/10/20 CBB Picks
Weekend Recap
1- Thank you first to our guest pickers this weekend. On Saturday, Tony Garcia did a great job. We followed that up on Sunday with a stellar interview with Hope Dollarhide. We appreciated you both joining the program for a Q&A and some basketball predictions. This weekend, we will have two more new guest pickers, so stay tuned! If you have any suggestions on who should be a guest picker, or if you yourself want to be one, contact us! In the mean time, make sure you check out the guest picker standings to see how everyone stacks up.
2- Trouble in East Lansing continues. To make matters worse for those grieving over the decision make by Luke Fickell this morning, the Spartans on the hardwood are struggling as of late too. After suffering their third straight defeat, all of which came after slow starts, the basketball team is out of the Top 25. With a tough schedule on the horizon, things may continue to be tough for this team.
3- A shoutout to the Alma Scots men's basketball team, who became the first team in the MIAA to take down Albion. The Brits entered this game at 18-2, and winners of 12 in a row, before Alma went on the road and took them down.
4- Make sure to check back tomorrow for our updated Big Ten Power Rankings!
TODAY’S GAMES
1. Duke vs Florida State (7:00, ESPN)
Nick: Duke- I still am not entirely sold on the Florida State team, despite their stellar play in most games. I do believe that Vernon Carey is a truly elite player, along with Tre Jones, and they will carry this team to victory.
Sam: Duke-- Dukies carry over the momentum from the improbable win over UNC
Zach: Duke- There will be zero letdown from the win they got at the hands of the choke job by the Tar Heels
2. Texas vs Baylor (9:00, ESPN)
Nick: Baylor- Shaka Smart is squarely on the hot seat, and this game could help cool that down. Baylor is perhaps the best team in the country, and they will get this victory on the road.
Sam: Baylor-- Texas lost to TT on Saturday in a game they badly needed, and it doesn’t get easier today.
Zach: Baylor- The Longhorns seem to play the top teams well, but can’t get the job done, and that continues today
3. Texas Tech vs TCU (9:00, ESPN2)
Nick: Texas Tech- Though they aren't as good as last year's bunch, the Red Raiders can still make some noise in March. Chris Beard is a truly great coach that will have his team contending in the tournament each season.
Sam: Texas Tech
Zach: Texas Tech- Very underrated player in the country, Desmond Bane for TCU, could have left last year and has only improved his draft stock this year
4. Boston U vs Colgate (7:00, CBSSN)
Nick: Colgate- Rapolas Ivanauskas is a game changer for this team, and they are already in the league lead, one game ahead of Boston. This is a big game in the Patriot League, but Colgate could make another run at an upset, like last year when they took Tennessee to the wire.
Sam: Colgate
Zach: Boston U
5. Jackson State vs Southern (9:00, ESPNU)
Nick: Jackson State- Home team wins this game.
Sam: Jackson State
Zach: Jackson State
6. USC Upstate vs Charleston Southern (6:00, ESPN+)
Nick: This game is a toss up, but Charleston Southern has Phlandrous Fleming. This is not only one of the best names in college basketball, but he is a game changer in the Big South.
Sam: Charleston Southern
Zach: USC Upstate
7. Longwood vs Campbell (7:00, ESPN+)
Nick: Campbell- Chris Clemons was a truly elite scorer last year, but he is gone. Ja'Cor Nelson has stepped up this year to fill some of that void, and it will be enough for the Camels tonight.
Sam: Campbell
Zach: Longwood- Shabooty Phillips is the real best name in college basketball.
8. Hampton vs UNC-Asheville (7:00, ESPN+)
Nick: Hampton- Jermaine Morrow is another guy who could make a huge difference in this league. He had looked to the transfer portal and the NBA Draft before returning this year, and he has continued to be a high-impact scorer for the Pirates.
Sam: UNC Asheville
Zach: Hampton
9. Winthrop vs Radford (7:00, ESPN+)
Nick: Winthrop- The Eagles are undefeated in the Big South, winning 14 games in a row.
Sam: Winthrop
Zach: Winthrop
10. Morgan State vs North Carolina Central (7:30)
Nick: North Carolina Central- The Eagles are the defending champs in the MEAC, you have to take them in a game this close.
Sam: North Carolina Central
Zach: Morgan State
