Best Logos in Sports: WNBA

This is the ninth article in the Best Logos series. We all give our picks for the best logo used by each WNBA team, with a brief reason provided for some of our favorite choices. As always, a shoutout to Chris Creamer's SportsLogos.net and LogoServer for providing us with the logo history!

ATLANTA DREAM

Nick: The throwback Dream logo uses a full color palate, rather than the current logo that includes too much black.

Zach: This color combo is a lot better than the current version, plus there is a full basketball.

Eric: I hate the use of the shield, it looks like a soccer team.

CHICAGO SKY

Nick: I am a big fan of the old school Sky logo. I love how it incorporates the skyline and the clouds.

Zach: Another horrible rebrand. They are trying too hard with the basket, and I like the "Sky" in the skyline.

Eric: The new logo is so similar to other logos, while the original is very unique.

CONNECTICUT SUN

Nick: The Sun could do so much better, this is brutal. I do like the WNBA ball incorporated though!

Zach: This logo is just awful. You really have to try to make out the word "Sun" because of everything going on.

Eric: Not a big fan, they resemble the Mohegan Sun Casino logo too much.

DALLAS WINGS

Nick: I love the Wings' colors, but the logo just doesn't do it for me. Why are they the wings, but they have a horse head? They should be the Pegasus!

Zach: They could do so much better. This is even worse than the Pelicans.

Eric: Not a big fan of flying things, and frankly what a horrible nickname. A flying horse is even worse.

INDIANA FEVER

Nick: I'm taking the alternate logo here. Simple.

Zach: Clean and simple with just the "F" and the WNBA basketball, which I like.

Eric: I love the nickname and the attempt at the old school logo, but it just falls short. I think they could do a little better.

LAS VEGAS ACES

Eric: Probably the best name in the WNBA, and the logo is pretty cool. It's unique and it incorporates the "LV" on the bottom. Nice work.

LOS ANGELES SPARKS

Nick: One of the few teal and purple logos that still exists, and they rock it! Never change Sparks.

Zach: This logo may be the epitome of the WNBA. When they think about success, they think about this logo.

Eric: I like the fact that you see the Lakers logo in this logo, but I have zero idea why they went with the teal basketball.

MINNESOTA LYNX

Nick: Old Lynx logo for the win. The T'Wolves/Lynx rebrand is bad.

Zach: I like that they piggy-back off the Timberwolves, but I wish they wouldn't have used the current logo to do it, because that's so ugly.

Eric: It does look like a female cat in the original logo. The current logo does parlay into the current Timberwolves logo, but I didn't like that one either.

NEW YORK LIBERTY

Nick: Including more of the Statue of Liberty is always a plus.

Zach: I like the colors in this logo, and the use of more of the statue.

Eric: I love the use of the torch and basketball, but they clearly could have done a better rebrand than this. Although it is the Statue of Liberty green, they could have picked a better color. Interesting font too that I'm not a big fan of.

PHOENIX MERCURY

Nick: Hey look, not consensus selections! I like the more "authentic" color of the planet Mercury.

Zach: Colors are better here.

Eric: I like the yellow in the name, but I don't like that you can't read Phoenix well. I have no idea why they gave Mercury rings, instead they could have made it into a basketball.

SEATTLE STORM

Nick: The Sonics left years ago, and thankfully that inspired the Storm to adopt this friendly color scheme.

Zach: This is just like the Sonics logo, and this is the Sonics' best colors, making it the Storm's best look.

Eric: I love the color combination, and the use of the Space Needle with the storm clouds around it. Clearly the best WNBA logo, with only Vegas in the rear-view mirror.

WASHINGTON MYSTICS

Nick: Tons of bad logos for one of the league's best teams.

Zach: The "DC" is easy to see, the Wizards have it, so why not the Mystics?

Eric: Other than the hoop and the ball, this doesn't scream basketball in the slightest. It makes me feel like I am going to get my fortune read at the county fair. I think they need to rebrand most of the WNBA logos.

Teams of the Past--Best of the Former WNBA Teams

Nick: I've got to give some love to the Detroit Shock for their awesome logo, but the Sacramento Monarchs will get some attention here too. What a unique look! Love the Utah Starzz too.

Zach: I think the Sting logo is sweet incorporating the Hornets, and I really miss the Detroit Shock. I would have gone to so many games if they still existed.

Eric: I like how most of these teams had a tie-in to their NBA partners, but I think that they still needed some work. The Sting logo is the best of the bunch, and it would be #2 or #3 in the WNBA today.
